Oxford University Rugby Football Club
About Us
Oxford University Rugby Football Club (OURFC) has a long and illustrious history of sporting distinction and remains one of the world’s leading and most renowned amateur rugby clubs in the world. Founded in 1869, some fifteen months before the foundation of the Rugby Football Union, the story of rugby in Oxford is nearly as old as that of rugby itself.
In May 2015, the Oxford University Women’s Rugby Football Club – OUWRFC founded in 1988 – officially became part of OURFC to form one ‘University Rugby Club’ to provide playing, coaching and refereeing opportunities for both men and women across the entire University.
OURFC continues to strive to combine sporting and academic excellence, and the club currently comprises over 150 playing members across six teams – Men’s & Women’s Blues, Greyhounds (Men’s 2nd XV), Panthers (Women’s 2nd XV), Whippets (Men’s 3rd XV) and Pumas (Women’s 3rd XV).
